Short Term Skill Courses

The Need for Skill Development Programmes:
The National Skill Development Policy of the Government of India, issued in March 2009, states that the demand for skilled manpower by 2022 will be 50 million. Due to increasing urbanization, 50 million non farm employment opportunities will be created during the period from 2012 to 2017 and the same number of people would require certified skill training. Keeping this urgent national requirement in mind, CSIO-ISTC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) in 2017.
The Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM)
PSDM is designed to provide skills to the unskilled urban poor as well as to upgrade their existing skills. The programme will provide skill training to the urban poor to enable them to setup self employment ventures and to get salaried jobs in the private sector. The programme intends to fill the gap between the demand and availability of local skills by providing skill training programs as required by the market. This will eventually lead to better living standards and alleviation of urban poverty on a sustainable basis and ensure inclusive growth with increased contribution of skilled urban poor to the national economy.
